It has led to change in our modern society with our magazine publications using modern technology. Though at first, garments were drawn illustrations it has now developed into sophisticated photography of new designs. Today the merging of fashion and visual design sources its art from the 1920s, encouraging our modern artists to be more innovative to design and create textile designs, fashion illustrations and photographs.

MagazinesMagazine readership reached its peak as the prices become more affordable with the heavy dependence on advertising. Advertisers could now reach out to a widespread audience on a daily basis and indirectly advertise their products. Heavily oriented towards colour print magazine advertisers used celebrity endorsements of products to induce consumers to buy. Clara Bow, Louise Brooks, Rudolf Valentino, and Josephine Baker were popular stars of the time, personifying many of the modern ideals. This resulted in the emergence of popular fashion magazines such as (American) Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, McCall and (French) Gazette du Bon Ton. These magazines marketed towards women’s desires for glamour with illustrative designs and were at the forefront of popular styles and fashion trends. In particular, cosmetics became a major industry due to the influence of the motion picture industry and famous movie starts, placing an emphasis on the face, figure, coiffure, and posture and grooming in addition to garments.
